The Festival of Lights and Sounds

The Festival of Lights and Sounds is an annual music & art festival fundraiser hosted and curated by Conor T. L. Sullivan. We aim to create a welcome and inclusive space where all kinds of art and people are celebrated. We gather together artists of different genres and mediums who donate their time and share their art to inspire people to donate to a cause that helps those directly in need.

2020

As you know, some crazy things happened in 2020. We couldn’t all jam into my apartment again. But! With each challenge comes an opportunity. Instead of 12 hours in one day in one place, the festival transformed to be an 8 night live streaming event! Eight Crazy Nights (another Hannukah pun) allowed for friends from outside NYC to join in to perform and watch. It also allowed the format to expand to include interviews with artists that create art other than music, such as painters and filmmakers who could screen share and talk about their work. Those interview would eventually inspire The Friendluck Show podcast. All 8 crazy nights are still available in FULL at the link below. And thanks to all the folks tuning in over the course of the eight nights, we raised over $3000 for the National Bail Out.

Here are a few clips!

And here’s a link to the whole event!

2019

The Festival of Lights and Sounds 2019 started as a way to get as many friends as possible together and create a space to celebrate all the different kinds of music they create. A few months before, I had put together a show at a club in Manhattan and had to bring my own microphones and other sound equipment and thought, “if I have to bring all this stuff to an actual venue, why don’t I just skip the hassle of the venue and throw the show in my apartment.” So we did! And since it was in my apartment, I didn’t have to worry about time limits…so instead of just a show…it should be a whole festival! And thus the festival was born.

Over the course of 12 hours in one day, we huddled together approximately 50 people at a time with over 100 people coming throughout the day, into my Brooklyn apartment. (Each person politely taking off their shoes when entering). 20+ artists performed with genres that ranged from acoustic jams to spoken word to beatboxing to full bands (including electric guitars and even drum sets) to rap crews that got the whole room jumpin’! Somehow, zero neighbors complained and we raised over $2000 for The Florence Project, which is an organization that provides legal aid to refugees and immigrants on the Southern border. Check out a few clips from that epic day below!
